With the discussion “Women in economics: challenges and opportunities”, held on May 15, REM-Chile (Network of Women Economists of Chile), was relaunched after being established in 2023 as a Group of the Economics Society of Chile (SECHI).

The researchers from the MIPP Milenio Institute, Juan Escobar, Ronald Fischer and Sofía Correa, were part of the study and were present at the ceremony that took place in the Eloísa Díaz room of the Central House of the University of Chile.

On Monday, March 25, the “Workshop on Management and Economics of Procurement” was held at the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM) of the University of Chile.

The researcher at the MIPP Millennium Institute and academic of Industrial Engineering at the University of Chile, Ronald Fischer, was highlighted for the second time by Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economist, a prestigious global ranking of Free Competition that, for more than 20 years, has highlighted the work and trajectory of lawyers and economists in this matter.

Juan Escobar was chosen as an economic theory fellow due to his scientific excellence, originality, and leadership; high ethical standards; and academic and creative achievements.

A postdoctoral position is available at the Millenium Institute for Research in Market Imperfections and Public Policy (MIPP) starting in July 2024 (Other start dates may also be considered). The selected candidates will devote fully to the research in economics, on topics related to the lines of research of the Institute.

The chosen projects belong to the academics Alejandro Corvalán and Juan Escobar. Its topics cover legislative apportionment and the design of mechanisms with budgetary restrictions.

The purpose of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory (SAET) is to promote knowledge in theoretical economics and facilitate communication between researchers in economics, mathematics, game theory, or any other field potentially useful for economic theory.

On December 14 and 15, 2023, several researchers, including Flavio Cunha, professor of economics at Rice University, shared their studies, perspectives, experiences, and knowledge on the impact of public policies, especially on the labor market.

At the Casa Central of the Universidad de Chile, the U.S. scholar detailed market design and matching markets, analyzing some school admission systems worldwide, including Chile’s. He also presented one of his most notable achievements: designing efficient systems for kidney exchange between donors and recipients. “Chile is one of the leaders in school choice but not a leader in kidney transplantation,” he said.
