A successful end to the cycle of talks “Economic studies from a gender perspective: What is not spoken of, does not exist” by MIPP and MAGCEA.

24 June, 2021

The MIPP Millennium Institute and the Master in Applied Economics (MAGCEA) program at the University of Chile were the organizers of this event, that sought to increase the visibility of, and promote a gender perspective within the different disciplines of economics.

During the course of 7 weeks, every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. between March 25 and May 6, 2021, more than 140 people were able to take part in different discussions that addressed Chile’s gender issues.

Human capital and early childhood issues, reproductive health, gender stereotypes and career choice, gender differences in political discount rates, labor market for women, and many others, were the weekly topics addressed by the researchers.

“The idea was to create a space for conversation around the progress and pending questions that exist in certain research areas,” says Fernanda Melis, Program Director at MAGCEA.

“We hope that this event will serve to encourage more students and researchers to address gender perspectives in their projects, and that more women are encouraged to study economics.”

In light of promoting the participation of women in postgraduate studies in economics, since 2019, the Master in Applied Economics has been awarding the Women in Economics and Science scholarship. More information about this scholarship can be found at  http://www.magcea-uchile.cl/
