The second conference on Banking Development, Stability, and Sustainability is aimed at bringing together academics, professionals, and policymakers who share an interest in the stability and sustainability of the banking system.
Main speakers of the conference included Rodrigo Valdés – Minister of Finance, Eric Parrado – Superintendent of Banks and Financial Institutions (SBIF), and Stefan Ingves – Governor of Sveriges Riksbank and Chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.
The conference was organized by the Superintendence of Banks and Financial Institutions (SBIF), the Association of Supervisors of Banks of the Americas (ASBA), the Millennium Institute for Market Imperfections and Public Policy (MIPP), and the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Chile (DII).
Fernando Ordoñez, Director of the DII, emphasized that the initiative seeks to provide academia, the industry, and policymakers with a space to discuss topics concerning the future of the banking system. In addition, Patricio Valenzuela, MIPP researcher and Professor at the University of Chile, pointed out that “a sustainable bank is one that allows for the achievement of all the benefits of financial development without the costs related to banking crises caused by excessive credit and financial risk”.
