The Central Bank of Chile and the Millennium Institute MIPP at the University of Chile have opened enrollment for the eighth edition of La Ciudad de las Oportunidades, a 100% online and free course designed for teachers and pedagogy students.
The program aims to strengthen the teaching of economics and personal finance in classrooms by providing practical tools aligned with the school curriculum. Enrollment will be open until May 11, and classes begin on May 12.
A Course with Proven Impact
More than 2,500 educators from across Chile have graduated from previous editions, acquiring key tools in microeconomics, macroeconomics, the financial system, and the role of the Central Bank of Chile. Over six modules, participants will learn these concepts with a practical approach, complemented by live workshops and support from specialized tutors.
“The country’s economic and financial stability depends on well-informed citizens. In this centennial year, the Central Bank of Chile reaffirms its commitment to financial education,” stated BCCh President Rosanna Costa. She added that, in a context of increasing digitalization and access to more sophisticated financial products, improving financial literacy is essential for responsible decision-making and individual well-being.
Andrea Canales, researcher at the Millennium Institute MIPP and professor at the University of O’Higgins, highlighted the course’s impact: “Our goal is to bring economics and finance closer to teachers, providing them with concrete tools so that their students can learn to make better financial decisions from a young age. In Chile, financial literacy remains low, and this course seeks to close that gap for future generations.”
Certification and Classroom Application
At the end of the course, teachers will design a class based on the knowledge acquired, which can be incorporated into their teaching evaluations. Additionally, the program is certified by the Center for Teacher Development, Experimentation, and Pedagogical Innovation (CPEIP) of the Ministry of Education, giving it academic and professional value.
