The Instituto Milenio for the Research of Market Imperfections and Public Policies (MIPP) is proud to announce the launch of “The City of Opportunities: Financial Education Manual.” Commissioned by the Central Bank of Chile, this publication is an integral part of the “The City of Opportunities” initiative, which has been in development since 2018 as part of a course designed for school teachers and education students.
The manual reflects the close collaboration between the Central Bank of Chile and MIPP. It compiles the content delivered in the course, incorporating innovative methodologies to integrate financial education into the classroom. Available in both print and digital formats, the manual is presented as an accessible and versatile tool, designed to facilitate the understanding of fundamental economic concepts.
Using clear language and everyday examples, “The City of Opportunities” covers essential topics such as micro and macroeconomics, the functioning of money, the financial system, the role of central banks, and various aspects of personal finance. This structured approach ensures that both teachers and students can comprehend and apply these concepts in real-life situations, thereby enhancing their ability to make informed financial decisions.
The relevance of this manual is underscored by the national context where, according to PISA 2018, nearly 30% of students do not meet the minimum competencies in financial education. With this initiative, the Central Bank of Chile and MIPP address a critical need by providing tools that promote family economic well-being and contribute to building a more equitable society.
“The City of Opportunities” not only consolidates vital knowledge but also reflects the commitment of teachers and education students who have contributed to its development. This collective effort is recognized as a fundamental pillar in transforming financial education across the country.
The Instituto Milenio MIPP invites the educational community to explore and utilize this valuable material, which stands as a strategic resource to advance economic understanding and strengthen both individual and collective well-being in Chile.
