The Institute for Research in Market Imperfections and Public Policy (MIPP) held its annual internal research workshop

On August 1 and 2, 2024, the MIPP Millennium Institute held its annual Internal Workshop in Concón, Chile. During the event, 12 MIPP researchers presented advances in their respective areas of study, creating a space for discussions and questions that enriched the academic exchange.

The researchers present were: Adriana Piazza, Alejandro Corvalan, Dany Jaimovich, Juan Escobar, Marcel Goic, Marcela Valenzuela, Pablo Muñoz, Pamela Jervis, Patricio Valenzuela, Rahmi Ilkilic, Raimundo Undurraga and Ronald Fischer.

Among the featured presentations, Raimundo Undurraga, an Industrial Engineering professor at the University of Chile, spoke about “Information Frictions, School Dropout, and Juvenile Crime,” a study that addresses information frictions and their impact on school dropout and juvenile delinquency.

Dany Jaimovich, from the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Talca, presented his research “Environmental and Productivity Impacts of Indigenous Land Restitution in Chile,” which analyzes the environmental and productivity effects of the restitution of indigenous lands in the country.

Alejandro Corvalán, also from Industrial Engineering at the University of Chile, presented “Measuring and Evaluating the Optimality of Legislative Apportionment Rules,” an analysis of legislative apportionment rules.

Pamela Jervis, another MIPP academic, presented “Impact of the Bicentennial Schools of Excellence Program on Academic and Socioemotional Well-being Outcomes of Students in Chile,” which examines the impact of the Schools of Excellence Program on the academic and socioemotional well-being of students.

The presentations continued with Patricio Valenzuela, from the University of the Andes, who discussed “Distance Innovation and Small Business Growth during Crises,” exploring how remote innovation influences the growth of small businesses during crises.

Juan Escobar, director of MIPP, presented “Search and Information in Centralized School Choice Systems,” a study on search and information in centralized school choice systems.

The workshop concluded with presentations by Rahmi Ilkilic, who presented “Multi-unit Auctions with Budget Limits and Dichotomous Preferences: A Possibility Result,” and Marcel Goic, who shared the results of his research “Digital Advertising Dynamics in a B2B Context: Evidence from a Field Experiment,” which addresses the dynamics of digital advertising in a B2B context.

The event was an opportunity for MIPP academics to share their ongoing research and generate a fruitful dialogue on the topics discussed, thus strengthening collaboration and the advancement of knowledge within the institute.
