The researcher from the MIPP Milenio Institute was one of the five academics from the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Chile who received this tribute on Monday, November 13 in the Hall of Honor of the Central House.
43 academics from the different faculties and the Baccalaureate program were honored within the framework of this ceremony that began the Anniversary Week of the University of Chile. This institution celebrates its 181 years this year.
Among the academics recognized as the best undergraduate teachers in 2023 is the MIPP Millennium Institute Researcher, Rahmi Ilkilic, who expressed that “my greatest motivation in teaching is to be faithful to the excellence of the DII and the brightest young minds in the country. We have many excellent teachers at DII who have managed to create a learning environment that is friendly, inclusive, and innovative.”
Furthermore, he added “I follow his example and in recent years I was lucky to find excellent assistants who helped me improve my courses. “I accept the recognition of best teacher on behalf of my teaching teams and the entire DII.”
Rahmi Ilkilic graduated in 1999 with a degree in Economics from Bogazici University, Istanbul. In 2004 he received his master’s degree and in 2007, his doctorate at the Autonomous University of Barcelona that year he moved to the Netherlands, where he worked as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Maastricht. Four years later he returned to his country to be an assistant professor at Bilkent for three years.
Since 2014 he has been an academic in Industrial Engineering at the University of Chile. Sometime later he joined the Milenio MIPP Institute to contribute with his research on social networks, economics, allocation problems, game theory, and mechanism design.
Teaching Distinction
Rector Rosa Devés, who was one of those in charge of delivering the recognition of Best Undergraduate Teacher 2023, expressed that “the University and all of us who are present here value the ability they have to distinguish themselves in their teaching work and what that means as responsibility,” Rector Devés highlighted in her speech.
Furthermore, in her speech, the rector highlighted that “not only do they have to be very solid in what they know and how they share it, but also in supporting the comprehensive development of the students, accompanying them in the search for meaning, not only from the professional point of view or what their academic training will be but also in life.”
The award, which in previous years also recognized the MIPP Millennium Institute researcher, Daniel Schwartz, highlighted the disciplinary mastery and research performance associated with the respective areas of knowledge of the honorees. Also the work, dedication, and vocation of those who have left their mark on their students and the community.
Congratulations!
