The Instituto Milenio MIPP together with the Doctorate in Engineering Systems (DSI) and the Master’s in Applied Economics (MAGCEA) annually carry out the “Summer School in Economics”, aimed at postgraduate students and advanced students in their undergraduate who are interested in economics and related disciplines.
More than 40 students from different South American countries such as Bolivia, Peru and Chile were part of a new version of the Summer School in Economics on December 5, 6 and 7, 2022.
The school, which was in person at Beauchef 851 of the University of Chile, allowed the students to be able to introduce themselves to border issues in various topics of the economy.
The Summer School in Economics was aimed at postgraduate students and advanced students in their undergraduate who had an interest in economics and related disciplines and had limited places.
This version of the school had three courses taught by prominent academics, Benjamín Vatter, Fernanda Rojas, and Pablo Muñoz, who taught the following courses:
In this course they discussed three new results regarding the design of public policies in health insurance markets: design of subsidies, design of insurance options, and design of quality incentives. They studied how these results may affect our vision for the future of the Chilean health insurance market.
In this course, different topics in labor economics were seen in the context of developing countries. Topics covered included the relationship between income and education, neighborhood effects, intergenerational mobility, crime, and gender discrimination.
This mini-course offered a brief introduction to the topic of “state capacity”, with an emphasis on selection and incentives for public sector workers. The course sought to expose students to recent developments in the economic literature, which combine theory and applied econometrics.
Thanks to everyone who participated this year in the school. We hope you liked it!
