The 2nd Cycle of Talks ended: “Economic studies with a gender approach: What is not spoken does not exist”

27 April, 2023

The MIPP Millennium Institute and the Master in Applied Economics, (MAGCEA) from the University of Chile, carried out this cycle that sought to make visible and promote the gender perspective within the different branches of the economy.

In addition, with this activity it was hoped to encourage more students and researchers to address the gender perspective in their projects, and that more women are encouraged to study Economics.

Throughout 6 weeks, every Thursday at 2:30 p.m, between October 13 and November 17, 2022, more than 150 people were able to be part of different discussions that addressed the problems that Chile has in terms of gender. The talks were held remotely through the Zoom platform.

“Gender gaps in mathematics and language: the bias of competitive performance tests”, “Gender Inequality and Mental Health in Times of Crisis”, “Intrafamily Violence and partner decisions”, were some of the topics that the researchers addressed week by week.

“The idea was to create a space for conversation regarding the advances and pending questions that exist in certain areas of research related to gender. We hope that this instance serves to encourage more students and researchers to address the gender perspective in their projects, and that more women are encouraged to study economics”, says Marcela Guajardo of the MIPP Millennium Institute.
