The Council of the Civil Society for Children, under the Ministry of Social Development and Family, has the function of incorporating the public’s voice into the management cycle of public policies on childhood matters of the Undersecretary for Children, being therefore in charge of strengthening participatory public administration. The Council´s task is to provide input on the policies implemented and their plan of action, as well as evaluate institutional programs and put forward proposals of public interest so that they can be considered by decisionmakers.
Our distinguished researcher, Pamela Jervis, is one of the members appointed to the Council of the Civil Society for Children, in addition to her being an academic at the Department of Industrial Engineering, of the FCFM, University of Chile.
The academic is an expert in childhood, adolescence, and family topics. She has a long professional career, which includes research in different contexts in Africa, Asia, and America, in which Jervis has verified in the field the harsh reality that boys and girls face when developing their potential, a situation that has been translated into scientific evidence disseminated in seminars, academic publications, international blogs, and reports, among others. Pamela Jervis has also been a consultant for private and public institutions, such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, Jacobs Foundation, the Institute for Fiscal Policies, Oxford Policy Management, as well as different government ministries.
The Council comprises nine members: four representatives from non-governmental organizations, three from academia, and two children or adolescents from the Community Advisory Councils. This is a two-year term, with the possibility of re-election. Some of the relevant functions of this body are: provide input on the National Policy for Children and Adolescents implemented by the Undersecretary for Children and its action plan, evaluate programs, and channel concerns and put forward proposals of public interest for consideration by decisionmakers.
We congratulate our MIPP researcher, Pamela Jervis, for this achievement, important for her career as well as the development of the country, and her contribution in improving the lives of future generations!
