Recent technological advances have made it possible for the digital economy to challenge the way competition takes place in various sectors such as commerce, tourism, transportation, and services. The emergence of these new technologies has revealed the complexity of public policies that seek to protect free competition, as illustrated by the failed acquisition of Cornershop by Walmart.
The MIPP Millennium Institute, in collaboration with the Center for Public Studies, the Institute of Complex Engineering Systems (ISCI), and the ProCompetencia Network invite you to the “Digital Platforms and Free Competition” seminar, which will present a discussion of the current various challenges on the development and regulation of electronic markets in different areas.
The seminar will feature presentations by Daniela Gorab, Minister of the Free Competition Defense Court (TDLC); Cristóbal Huneeus, Partner and Director of Data Science at Unholster, and Marcelo Olivares, Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Chile.
The seminar will feature the participation of special guest Massimo Motta, an academic at Pompeu Fabra University and the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics.
Motta is internationally recognized for his research in free competition due to his role as Chief Competition Economist of the European Commission’s Competition Division (2013-2016). In his talk, Motta will reflect on competition policies in digital markets.
