Professors graduates from course on economic and financial education conducted by the Central Bank and the MIPP Millennium Institute

A total of 296 teachers received the certificate that certifies that they made the first version of the online course of economic and financial education “The City of Opportunities”, an initiative that is part of the Central in your Life program of the Central Bank of Chile and that It was developed together with the MIPP Milenio Institute of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM) of the University of Chile.

The President of the Central Bank of Chile, Mario Marcel, and the Dean of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM) of the University of Chile, Francisco Martínez headed the ceremony of delivery of certificates made in the English Patio of the Emitting Institute.

During the ceremony, the President of the Central Bank, Mario Marcel, pointed out that this instance of training was born of the interest of the Issuing Institute and the MIPP Millennium Institute to respond to the problems and needs identified in economics in the teachers.

“Chileans need to have good knowledge in financial matters in order to manage our resources well and those of our families. For that it is important to know the terms used and understand what the market offers us to make good decisions, “he said adding that” through this program we have not only wanted to reach the students, but to do it with some partners that are important: the teachers. Working with them and listening to their needs and concerns we can do a better job and together we help our students to understand what seems complicated that is the economy, but often it is more intuitive than it seems “.

During the ceremony, the professors who stood out for their academic excellence throughout the course were rewarded and those who were also recognized for their final work that corresponded to a lesson plan.

It was also announced that the success of the online course has led both institutions to continue with this program, for which a new version will be developed as of April 2019.

The course -free- is aimed at middle school teachers and students of pedagogy of the subjects of Social Sciences, History and Geography, Mathematics and Language.

It should be noted that this initiative is part of the National Financial Education Strategy, launched in January 2018 and considers the new curricular contents incorporated by the Ministry of Education in the subject of History, Geography and Social Sciences.

“The City of Opportunities” aims to teach teachers content related to micro and macroeconomics, the banking system, personal finance, money and the Central Bank of Chile in a simple and entertaining, as well as provide teachers tools that allow them to teach these lessons to their students in the classroom.
