The Institute for Research in Market Imperfections and Public Policy (MIPP) is an academic center that develops and disseminates knowledge in Economics and related fields. Supported by ICM and Conicyt and hosted by Universidad de Chile, Facultad de Ciencias Físicas y Matemáticas, Departamento de Ingeniería Industrial, MIPP was founded in 2015 by a group of economists and political scientists working in some of the most prestigious Chilean Universities.
Researchers and students working at MIPP develop cutting-edge approaches to attack some of the most challenging and important issues in Industrial Organization, Macroeconomics, Finance, and Political Economics. This research has been presented in many well-known conferences around the globe and has been published in some of the best academic journals in Economics, Political Sciences, and Management.
The Institute creates methodological tools for delivering relevant information for the decision-making process of public and private companies and agencies. Recent episodes of regulatory failures pose a number of academic challenges not only for the design of regulatory rules, but also with respect to the response of public policy after they occur. The continuous collaboration between MIPP and its public and private partners breaks down the artificial barrier between academic work and its practical applications.
The workshops and seminars at MIPP provide an international forum for scholars and practitioners to debate various economic problems. The vast network of international collaborators and visitors at the Institute makes MIPP a vibrant and stimulating intellectual venue.
Education is central to MIPP. Master and doctoral students work closely with MIPP researchers and benefit from the academic environment that MIPP provides. The Institute also organizes activities and meetings to make economic insights available to a wider audience. These activities include courses on economic issues for high-school teachers, entrepreneurs, and journalists.
